I spent eight years of my life there during undergrad and graduate school, and they were the best years. I will always associate NOLA with youth, music, unforgettable times with good friends, and independence. I sympathize with the friends, professors, former co-workers there. I feel heartbroken when I watch the images of catastrophe.

when they finally let us in to see the damage to our homes and grab what we can, what is left. i HATE HATE HATE the fact that its just not the weather, its the fucking CRIMINALS that have taken our homes from us. its one thing for a natural disaster to rape us, but some low life piece of shit to come behind and take what is left. not knowing where i will be, what i will have, what life is going to be like, is a living hell for a control freak like me, but at least i am living a hell, and not dying of one.

i can't imagine not living in NOLA, after 25 years. i can't seem to let go even though everyone is telling me i need to. i feel like part of my identity is gone. i just want to get home, pick up the pieces, if there are any, and try to move on this bumpy road.

new orleans was where my adult life (and happy late childhood) began. the main reason that i stayed there after school was the built environment, and that's the reason that i plan to return and help rebuild.

it's bad, but so was betsy. new orleans WILL be back.
